from various disciplines. In addition, there will be an exhibition of a selection of photographs
taken at a similar workshop in Cairo.
My Barbarian is a Los Angeles-based artist group founded in 2000 by Alexandero
Segade, Malik Gaines, and Jade Gordon. The trio, which alternately assumes the
characteristics of a band, an experimental theater troupe, and a group of performance
artists, virtuosically uses theater, music, and visual art in its work.
My Barbarian’s performances, video works, songs, installations, and workshops aim at the most basic, deepest elements of society and culture – rituals, beliefs, communities, anxieties and neuroses, histories and mythologies. Their performances directly refer to our daily routine, choices, relationships, and politics. They make us act out the roles we already play in changing choreographies – constellations that embody a real possibility of individual commonality.
